How to reach

By Air: Sharjah International Airport is the nearest airport, located 13km away from south-east of Sharjah. IndiGo operates 28 weekly, non-stop flights between Sharjah and Lucknow, Hyderabad, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.

Getting around: Buses and taxis are the most common and convenient means of transportation in Sharjah.

Places to visit in Sharjah

  • Al Noor Mosque: For culture aficionados, Sharjah has plenty on its plate. Start your tour with a visit to the stunning Al Noor Mosque, located beside the Khaled lagoon on Buhaira Corniche. It’s Turkish Ottoman architectural style is known to be influenced by Turkey’s iconic Sultan Ahmed Mosque. Al Noor is also the first mosque in Sharjah which opened its doors to non-Muslims, allowing them to learn about the nuances of Islam through a guided tour.
  • Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation: For a more in-depth look at the world of Islam, make your way to the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation. Opened in 2008, the building houses over five thousand historical Islamic civilisation artefacts that delve into faith, science, discovery and art. A group of early Islamic coins, the ‘Sitara’ or the exemplary curtain for the door of the Ka’aba in Mecca, and reconstructions of some of the first astrolabes developed by Islamic scientists are the key elements to watch out for at the museum.
  • Al Majaz Waterfront: Sharjah has a lot to offer for a family holiday too. Make your way to Al Majaz Waterfront—a mega tourist destination that boasts a multimedia fountain show, an 18-hole golf course, a water park, and a designated creative centre for kids called Alwan.

Souk Al-Markazi: A shopper’s paradise, the Souk Al-Markazi or Blue Souk is Sharjah’s iconic shopping hub that caters to every need. Two buildings, interconnected by bridges, together makes its grand complex, which houses over 600 shops selling everything from jewellery and perfumes to rugs and pashminas. The best part: you can bargain at any souk to strike a good deal.

Visa and Immigration

Sharjah is one of the popular cities in the UAE, and to visit the city, you require a UAE visa. Indian nationals with ordinary passports will need the visa. You can either get it from the official tourism website, or it needs to be arranged by an agent. However, if you have an Indian passport with US Visitor Visa/Green card, you are eligible for visa on arrival.
