Supporting communities with Waste Segregation and its management

Over the last few decades, segregation, collection and recycling of waste has become an increasing environmental concern in Delhi and in other parts of the country too.

As a part of our initiative on the environment, IndiGo has joined hands with Chintan to focus on cleaning a neglected stretch of 5 km of the railway line between Palam and Shahbad Mohamadpur in New Delhi and also create a sustainable practice of waste management in the area. This area has accumulated wastes over the years and is a threat to the environment as well as the health of the community living around it.

The key objectives of the project include:

  • Cleaning of identified locations
  • Training waste pickers and local communities on waste management
  • Demonstration of an efficient and financially-sustainable model for decentralised solid waste management

So far, this program is being implemented to create awareness and develop p waste segregation and composting practices in 520 households in the area, which is administered by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
