Modern India's first planned city, Chandigarh has everything you can ask for. It is known for its modernist architecture and urban design. Chandigarh is a city in northern India and is the capital of both the states of Haryana and Punjab. How to reach Chandigarh

  • By air: Chandigarh International Airport is the nearest airport about 12km from the city. IndiGo operates non-stop weekly flights to Chandigarh from various cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad, Srinagar etc. IndiGo operates more than 150 daily flights from Chandigarh to a range of destinations.
  • By train: Chandigarh is well-connected to all prime locations in the country through various trains including Kalka (Chandigarh) Shatabdi Express, Chandigarh Jan Shatabdi Express, Chandigarh Lucknow Express amongst others.
  • By bus: Two bus terminals mainly serve the city. The Inter-State Bus Terminus in Sector 43 connects Chandigarh to all major destinations in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttaranchal, Haryana, Jammu, and Delhi (limited). And the Inter-State Bus Terminus in Sector 17 offers connectivity to all significant places in Delhi and Haryana (except those on Himachal Route like Kalka).
  • Getting around Chandigarh: Chandigarh boasts a good network of bus services provided by the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU). Rental cars and app-based taxi services like Ola and Uber are the other common means of transportation to move around the city.

Places to visit in Chandigarh

  • The Capitol Complex: With a little planning and a map in hand, it isn’t hard to cover the city’s stand-out cultural offerings in a day or two. First-time visitors generally head for Le Corbusier's collection of public buildings to get a feel of the city’s architectural core. Situated in Sector 1 and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Capitol Complex is made up of a lake and some splendid buildings: The Palace of Assembly, The Secretariat, The High Court as well as The Open Hand Monument—all of which are classic pieces of 1950s architecture that are typified by their brutal lines and acres of sweeping concrete.
  • The Government Museum and Art Gallery: For a quick recap of the city’s history, stroll down to the Government Museum and Art Gallery. This crowd-pleasing museum showcases documents, sketches and photos of Le Corbusier—stunning examples of 20th century architecture and design.
  • Rock Garden: Among all the places to visit in Chandigarh, a visit to Nek Chand’s Rock Garden has to be on top of your to-do list. This beautiful garden is one of the most visited and probably popular places in the whole of Chandigarh. It is believed that it took years building more than 2,000 sculptures with urban waste here.
  • Leisure Valley: You must spare some time for Leisure Valley—a patchwork of stunning gardens, paths and lakes. This 7 km-long stretch of green serves as the lung of the city. It begins from Sector 1 and snakes its way around Sukhna lake which then leads you to the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden and from there onward to the Topiary Park and the Garden of Fragrance—giving locals a brilliant fitness trail and tourists a breath of fresh air.

It is a two-day festival that is held to encourage the farmers to adopt the latest technology and increase their mango production to get the maximum return on their produce.
  • Festivals of Gardens: A festival of the garden is a three-day celebration programme organised in the last week of February, earlier known by Rose Festival's name.
  • Chandigarh Carnival: Chandigarh is the three-day-long carnival festival celebrated in November at the Leisure Valley. Several cultural events are organised like dancing, singing both folk and cultural events are organised over there.
